Life Advice with Lucy

How do you know you're on the right path? I am very passionate about a lot of things and idk what to do in life!

If what you’re doing with your life is making you happy then you’re on the right track. I believe true success is happiness, if you’re happy you’re set. If you’re unhappy then consider what other path could make you happy. Happiness is the most important thing!

i don't know if i should go to college and if it would be right for me

If you think not going to college won’t affect you and what you want to do with your life then don’t go! It’s not worth spending all the money if you don’t need to go. But if you think it could help, consider it. Do what’s gonna make you your happiest.

Hi!  I need some advice on boys. Will they always be so rude towards girls. Like just because a girl doesn't have the "ideal" body, why shut her out and say she's ugly? When will they mature? I'm talking about 13-year-old boys rn.

Thirteen year old boys are the worst. Boys are the worst. I do promise there are a few good ones though. I know it’s hard to believe but it’s true. I’ve struggled with body confidence and I know it’s especially tricky when boys are judgmental about your body as well. The minute you start loving yourself and you’re confident in yourself then others will be attracted to you and your personality. I know it’s cheesy, but what’s inside is so much more important than what’s outside. As for the boys, they’ll mature over time. I know they suck, but it does get better. Hang in there. You got this.

I don't want to get out of bed anymore

I feel this. I can’t either tbh. Talk to people you love, tell them what’s going on, something that’s really been helping me is therapy. If you have the resources, find one. It’s been the most helpful thing for me.

This isn’t really advice but where can you find your magazine

www.oureramag.com/shop ;)

I just came out as a lesbian, and don't know any other queer women. I'm desperate for lesbian friends, but that's hard in quarantine. Any advice?

There’s a huge queer community in the creative space. Find other people who do similar work and I;m positive you’ll find some awesome people.

can y’all do a column on body image and confidence!?!?!?

We’re working on it ;)

How do you subtly let someone know that you like them?

You’re probably asking the wrong person because all my relationships haven’t lasted more than a month lol. BUT my go to thing is to tease them and be mindful of your body language, maybe if they make you laugh lightly tap their shoulder or something. Also! Act the same way you do on text in person. You dont want this person to think they're talking to two different people. Good luck!

I have a friend who’s never been good at being a friend. When I told her I was dropping out of a mock trial, she just said “cool”, but whenever she needs emotional support, I'd be by her side in a heartbeat. Do I need new friends? Does she hate me?

Omg. Dude. I just got out of a friendship like this and it’s the WORST. I’d say, think about it. Does this friendship bring your more hurting or happiness? How does it REALLY make you feel? If the answer is hurt then drop her. You don’t need that in your life. If you think that talking to her could help work things out then do that. I know how hard it is to tell someone that they are hurting you, but there is a chance that she has no idea she’s doing it. Some people are so wrapped up in their own shit that they can’t see that they are putting others down. Open up your circle! Make sure that she isn’t the only friend in your life. I doubt she hates you. Just be transparent and if it doesn’t work out then she probably wasn't meant to be in your life.

I've been in online school for a few months but I've struggled to find motivation. I can't focus and I get frustrated a lot easier than I used to. I know I've got to face it head-on and just try my best, but I'm so afraid of failure. All I want to do is escape- that's why movies/shows are my biggest coping mechanism. Even though watching these things helps me calm down, I know it's not a long-term solution for how I'm feeling. Any advice?

I’m homeschooled so switching over to remote school was a lot easier for me than anyone else. I went to public school for most of my life so a couple years ago when I switched over it was definitely tricky for me too. My number one tip for online school is to designate a time in the day for each subject. For example you say from 9 am to 10:30 im gonna do english, 11 to 12:30 im gonna do chemistry and so on. Time blocking has been super effective for me so I really suggest you try it. Also! Take breaks and give yourself incentives. Say if I do this much of my Chem homework I’m gonna make myself my favorite meal or something. Just so you have something to look forward to! Hope this helps <3

I want to have a cool room/clothes that scream indie and colorful. but my parents think it is too much of a change. I want to become an influencer and want to inspire people. how can you become famous online

Our generation has become incredibly obsessed with the indie/ alt aesthetic. I blame tiktok. If that aesthetic inspires you, I’d say go for it. Go thrifting, re- decorate your room, have fun with it! Next time your parents question it, tell them how you feel. Explain how it makes you feel when they say it’s too much. As for getting famous online, I have no idea! My only advice for that would be to put content out that you love, pay attention to algorithm, and be authentic. You got this!
