Everybody loves a girl group. From the Spice Girls to Destiny’s Child these bands were essential in the 90s and early 00s. But what about today's girl groups? Meet Boys World, one of the music industry’s most exciting up and coming girl groups. The band consists of 5 incredible women. Queenie, Elana, Lilian, Makhyli, and Olivia. “Boys World is a lovable mess.” Elana tells me while the girls sit on a couch in their living room. When asked how they would describe the band they answered promptly. “We are eccentric and chaotic. We are best friends and we just really hope that people can take that away when they’re listening to our music.”

Each of the girls have a unique story of finding their love for music. For some it was when they got involved in performing arts in school, for others it was ingrained in their everyday lives being surrounded by artists in their childhood homes. “My grandfather was an Elvis impersonator and my mom wanted to be on Broadway so I guess art and music was always part of my life.” Olivia tells me.

It wasn’t till a little before the pandemic that the girls formed their group. Approached on social media, the girls were excited by the idea of starting a  girl band, loving the concept of empowering young women through their art. Each of them were at different points in their lives. Some just entered high school and others were on the tail end of it. They tell me a little about the Process of writing their first song together. “It was called Concealer and it was about a guy concealing another woman.” They tell me. “It was a lot more chill than the songs we put out now. It's kind of crazy that we wrote that because it's so different.”

When they finally launched in 2020 it was in the midst of the world shutting down due to the coronavirus pandemic. The girls didn’t have the opportunity to perform live for their listeners until late last year. “Hearing our fans for the first time screaming our lyrics and just seeing our friends and family in the audience and getting to meet everybody afterwards was just surreal. I mean, we had been waiting for that moment for like three years.” Queenie tells me. “The closest thing we had to that experience before then was meeting fans in the grocery store or communicating with them on social media.”

Social media is a big way for the girls of Boys World to connect. They use their Tiktok, Instagram and Youtube platforms to communicate with their fans and build those everlasting relationships with their audience. Their youtube channel is my personal favorite. Documenting the behind the scenes of their music videos,  or even just vlogging a chaotic day in their lives consisting of baking a cake for a fan and randomly piercing their ears in their bedroom, the girls love to share their days and their fans love it even more.

Constantly working and being on social media can be a grueling thing to do. “Our team is so Accommodating. if we don't want to be writing so much because we'll get burnt out or we need a break, they are so lovely and listen to us and what we need for ourselves and our mental health.” They tell me. Something that is super unique that the label offers for them is free Better Help therapy. The world of music can be incredibly draining and this being accessible to the girls is absolutely amazing.

The girls have all had unique experiences learning various lessons from their time in the music industry so far. One big lesson they learned is not being afraid to tell people when they don't like something or that something that they're putting out doesn't feel like them. It's so important that artists feel happy with the work they're putting out. Continuing to manifest and make goals is something that has kept them going. They also say “ Don’t let anyone else's opinions or comments made towards you get to you.” The only opinion that truly matters is your own and your happiness is so important to being in this industry. You need to love it and Boys World is loving every minute of it.

Boys World is an incredible group of women who are doing amazing things and our team is so happy to watch these girls flourish in all things they do through their music.
