If you spend time scrolling through Instagram or Tiktok, there’s a good chance you have come across Sky Katz. The 18 year old multihyphenate has a huge following across Instagram and tiktok, her posts ranging from promoting her incredible music, or newest acting role, to fun outfit videos with friends. I got the chance to sit down with Sky to chat about all things, acting, social media and her favorite; music.

Lucy: Sky! How are you?

Sky: I’m doing well, thank you! I’ve got a lot on my plate right now, which makes me super happy. I’m a workaholic LOL. A goal I’ve set for myself recently though, is to get better at time management. I have to make sure I’m leaving enough time for work, while making sure I’m staying on top of my mental health, and self care responsibilities!

Lucy: Why don’t you tell our readers a bit about yourself!

Sky: Hey readers! My name is Sky Katz. Here’s a quick little summary of my “story” so far.. I was on America’s Got Talent when I was 11 years old, while still making music, I transitioned into acting almost right after, and played Tess on Disney Channel’s Raven’s Home from age 12-16. Raven’s Home was completely life changing for me, and I’m forever immensely grateful for the opportunities I've received since and doors that have opened!!! More recently, after Raven’s Home, I filmed my newest series Surviving Summer for Netflix. Talk about another life changing moment… Filming season one of Surviving Summer was one of the greatest experiences in my whole life. The love and feedback we have received on that show is incredible, and just another source of gratitude for me! I love my fans and how they’ve sort of grown up with me and have followed me on this journey for so long. It’s weird to think it’s really only the beginning, or at least I hope!

Lucy: I remember watching you in Ravens Home. What was that experience like?

Sky: Filming Raven’s Home was amazing! I learned an unbelievable amount about acting and the industry in general on that show which has and will continue to help me in future roles for the rest of my life! The whole cast always had such a blast together, which always made filming a very enjoyable experience. My favorite part of filming was when we’d have stunts for the psychical comedy bits of the show. Raven usually had them and she’s the queen of that. She always knew how to make everybody laugh on and off set.

Lucy: Let’s talk about Surviving Summer. For those who have not seen it, do you wanna explain a little bit about what the show is about?

Sky: I play Summer in Surviving Summer, which is basically about a rebellious teen finding herself through causing trouble. She lives in Brooklyn, until her mom sends her to family friends in Shorehaven, Australia to sort of get her shit together after getting suspended from two elite private schools. The show then follows her journey in Australia making friends, dealing with discovering further into her self identity, and so much more! I recommend watching if you haven’t ;)

Lucy: So you filmed the show in Australia, what was that experience like? Was it hard to pick up and move across the world?

Sky: Similar to Summer, Australia quickly became a place that felt like home for me in roughly four months. Since coming home from filming, I’ve missed it there every single day! We worked on some of the most beautiful locations, I worked with and became close friends with some great people, I was doing what I love DAILY... Everything about it was beyond amazing.

Lucy: Tell me about your music?

Sky: My music is my biggest outlet. I express myself the most through my music and am extremely thankful to have that! I’m a huge advocate for using arrt as a tool of expression. I think everybody needs some sort of escape. Whether it’s working out, reading, traveling, whatever it may be, some sort of mental getaway is necessary for everyone. Since as long as I can remember, I’ve yearned to become an artist and make music. It’s my favorite thing in my world.

Lucy: You have a very prominent social media following, do you think there’s a power in using social media?

Sky: Thank you, I like to stay active on social media, as I feel connecting with my fans is super important! Although, there are ups and down to being super active constantly. At times, when I feel overwhelmed with social media, or once it begins to feel like an obligation, I’d like to take a break, but usually once beginning that attempted “break”, at least someone on my team will shoot me an email or text, suggesting I post, and stay on top of all of my platforms. There are pros and cons, but generally I am very grateful for social media, given the large platform I’ve accumulated over the years, and the voice I’ve been given because of it. I’m apart of Gen-Z after all, so I’m naturally a victim to the constant scrolling due to my slight phone addiction hahah.

Lucy: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Sky: In 5 years from now, I hope to be doing exactly what I’m doing now, with even more songs, music videos, shows and film work under my belt! That is the dream! Doing what I love…

Lucy: What advice would you give your younger self?

Sky: If I could give any advice to my younger self, I’d tell myself to trust the process and understand the beauty is more so in the journey, rather than the destination. Then comes the (while being corny), important stuff, like “never give up”, “work hard”, “stay focused”, etc!
